I Can Only Imagine By Mercy Me

The Song

Verse 1

I can only imagine what it would be like

When I walk by Your side

I can only imagine what my eyes will see

When Your face is before me

I can only imagine, I can only imagine

Chorus

Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel

Will I dance for You Jesus

Or in awe of You be still

Will I stand in Your presence?

To my knees will I fall

Will I sing Halleluyah?

Will I be able to speak at all?

I can only imagine

I can only imagine

Verse 2

I can only imagine when that day comes

When I find myself standing in the Son

I can only imagine when all I will do

Is forever, forever worship You

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
Chorus (2ce)

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel?

Will I dance for You Jesus

Or in awe of You be still

Will I stand in Your presence?

To my knees will I fall?

Will I sing Halleluyah?

Will I be able to speak at all?

I can only imagine

I can only imagine

I can only imagine (5 times)

I can only imagine when all I will do

Is forever, forever worship You

I can only imagine

The Message

The first time I heard this song, I was watching a musical show on TBN, one of the Christian networks, and the group Phillip, Dean and Craig, which happened to be a favorite of mine hosted a young man who was very ill with a terrible disease that affected the body muscles- a very severe type of Muscular Dystrophy. I don’t recall his name. His entire muscles were becoming hard and brittle and he could barely move. He knew his time was almost up and he came up to sing this song. It was one of the highpoints of TBN broadcasting for that year. It was an amazing experience. He was ill, dying, and very conscious of the glory of God. He could barely get the song out, but we all understood him clearly.

He was singing about an experience that we will all experience someday. The only difference is that most of us look forward t it in the distant future while he knew he would soon meet with Jesus. Even though the muscles of his face were distorted, he still looked glorious, as though He was already seeing Jesus. He was in pain, dying and yet able to sing in worship looking forward to actually meeting Jesus. Isn’t that amazing?

When I came across the Mercy Me version of the same song many years later, I was excited because I knew it would take me into His presence anytime I wanted. As I mused over the events of my life in the very recent past, this past anniversary week, I could not help but burst into worship, blessing jesus, the keeper of my soul. It has been quite an experience but I suddenly realized that the future He has for me is far better than the past I have had. The best of my life is yet ahead of me. And it will end some day, when I stand right in His presence. Like the singer, I cannot imagine how it will be. I don’t think our hearts can fully muster such glory. I will have to wait for that day.

I have put the link of the song here for you to also experience. Find joy, comfort, peace, hope and faith in the thought of coming face-to-face
with Jesus, your Lord, knowing that He will keep you between now and then. That is the ultimate this life in Christ can give us-ending up at the feet of the Master, knowing we will never part from His ever loving presence. I love You Lord. Bless you. Ck
