MAKING CHOICES FOR A GREAT LIFE

As a young person, I made a lot of choices, some good and some bad. I am grateful to God for the good choices I made but I sometimes still berate myself for the bad ones. Because I still feel the impact of the bad ones, even after so many years. I have taken responsibility for my
choices and realize that the life I have today is because of those choices.

When I came across a book by a gentleman called Dr Shad Helmstetter titled “Choices” I was excited at his line of thought and felt I should discuss them on Dove Eyes. According to him, “If you’d like to know what your choices have been, look at yourself and the life you have lived. What you see is the choices you’ve made. So he asks, “Who knows what you could accomplish in life if you made more of the right choices along the way?” The choices we make result in the quality of life we have. That is why we must keep talking about choices and how to make
good ones.

Let me ask you a question from Dr Shad’s book, “If you were given only one choice: To choose or not to choose, which would you
choose?”. I choose to live the best life I can by making good choices as many times as I need to make them. So what are the things that motivate your choices- your friends, the trends, your family, the news, your economic status, your circumstances. Whatever they are, Dr Shad says, “No one else can ever make your choices for you. Your choices are yours alone. They are as much a part of you as every breath you will take, every moment of your life.”

“You may think that in life, a lot of things happen to you along the way. The truth is, in life, you happen to a lot of things along the way.”

“Choosing to live your life by your own choice is the greatest freedom you will ever have.”

“It is only when you exercise your right to choose that you can also exercise your right to change.”

So why must we make our choices? According to Dr Shad, “You cannot manage your life if you do not manage yourself. You cannot
manage yourself if you do not manage your choices. Manage your choices, and you will manage your life.”

“Learning what to choose, and how to choose, may be the most important education you will ever receive.”

How do we make our choices? According to Dr Shad, “Listen to the quietest whispers of your mind. They are telling you the choices that will help you the most.”

“Even the best of choices is only as strong as the choices that stand by its side.”

“It is the big choices we make that set our direction. It is the smallest choices we make that get us to the destination.”

Choices, choices, choices, when do we need to make our choices? Once again Dr Shad has this to say “Each day that passes, your choices will come and go. They are like diamonds in a chest of jewels, each waiting to be discovered.”

“Those who choose to succeed always do better than those who never choose at all.”

“The highest levels are most certainly filled with those who chose to be there.”

“If you have to take time to make a choice, take time. Then make the choice.”

Let me tell you something about making choices- Trust the Man upstairs from the bottom of your heart, don’t try to figure out everything on your own, Listen for His voice in everything you do , everywhere you go, He’s the one who will keep you on track. This happens to be The Message Bible version of Proverbs 3:3-5.

In good old KJV Style,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path-Help you make the right choices.
