Resurrection Power

The Easter season comes and goes every year and we go through the motions of appreciating what Jesus Christ did for us. But for me, Easter took a slightly different turn this year because in the last two years I saw that power in action in my life. It is one thing to know that Jesus died for you. It is another thing to invoke what He did for you and depend on it for your survival or progress in life.

The Easter story actually began as soon as man fell in the Garden of Eden. God pronounced the curse on Adam, Eve and the serpent, but He did not leave it there. He promised a solution to the calamity that had just taken place. He said to the serpent in Genesis 3:15 ‘And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel’. The seed of the woman would come and bruise the enemy’s head. That was what played out as Easter many eons later.

He also changed their clothes from fig leaves to ‘coats of skin’. Genesis 3:21 ’Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them’. He removed their inadequate fig clothes, made in their strength and gave them what was adequate. The propitiation by blood began right there because the animal had to be slaughtered before He could get skin for clothing them. He dispensed grace right there before they left the garden.

Beyond what happened in the Garden of Eden, there was constant propitiation by blood. Abel’s sacrifice was accepted because he came by blood (Genesis 4:1-15). When God and Noah began their relationship, there was blood (Genesis 8: 20-22). When He began with Abraham, there was blood (Genesis 12:7). By the time He rescued the children of Israel, He actually formalized propitiation by blood through the Law. In that era there was blood flowing constantly. Blood was a necessary part of God’s relationship with man. He needed to be propitiated with blood to deal with sinful man.

So when Jesus showed up on Christmas morning, it was to finish what actually started in the Garden of Eden. I guess God was tired of all the blood shedding. It was not really solving the problem. It had become more of a religious exercise. People were not changing. They continued to manifest the sin nature and simply slaughtered more animals. Something needed to change. It may seem like God kept tweaking the plan as time went on, but it was not so. The plan was in place all along.

Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of the plan. His coming was to settle the need for being propitiated by blood constantly. It had been goats, sheep, cattle, birds but now it would be sinless blood, shed by a sinless Man. It would take away that need forever, because He would be totally and completely propitiated. It was not just that Jesus died, but he went to hell to actually pay for the sin of mankind. He was there for three days, experiencing the death that man was supposed to. Then He rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. Satan lost the battle in the grave, but he did not give up. He attempted to stop His ascension, but Colossians says 2:15 ‘And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it’. He settled all scores, in the grave, in the air, then he marched triumphantly into heaven. Psalm 24:7-10 captures it. ‘Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory’. As He approached heaven’s gates, there was an angelic cry to lift up the gates for Him to come through. He had finished the work. He was heralded in and given a seat and yet another promise. Psalm 110:1 ‘The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool’. All His enemies would be brought under His feet, because of the great work that He had done.

That is where we all come into the picture. We have been given the mandate to bring His enemies under His feet, because He paid the price to liberate us into the place of authority that we once had in Adam. I had to go back to this entire redemption story to remind myself that God has done all He can do for me. I have to rise up and take what He has done for me.

My Story: I woke up one morning in October 2012 and felt a mass in my right breast. I was scared and immediately began to think of where I could get tests done. Then I felt the Spirit of God saying to me to give this matter to Him to take care of. He allowed this situation so he could get my complete attention. ‘Lord, I am an educated woman. When you feel anything in your breast, you check it out’. But He said to me, ‘Trust me, I got you’. It was a tough decision but I remembered how He had brought me through so many other things and decided I would let Him take care of it.

You would expect now that all would be well, but I got into a battle with the enemy concerning my health. It was a long drawn out battle but I stood my grounds. What was the basis for my confidence? The finished work of the cross. As I kept holding unto the finished work of the cross being the basis for my healing, all kinds of manifestations and symptoms were going on in my body. As they were getting louder, so were my confessions of faith getting louder.

As God would have it, every program I watched on TV was talking about healing, victory, the work of the cross, faith and believing God. It was amazing. He would share things with me, that someone would repeat verbatim on TV. In fact, one such person, who had just got through cancer actually said, ‘You have to believe Him when he says. ‘Trust me, I got you’. I was tripping.

It was my battle with the devil, I had Him on my side telling me what to do and say, showing me scriptures. I had to guard my mind. Many times I would command my mind to align itself with God’s word concerning me. My mind seemed to be my closest enemy. But I just kept speaking the Word. Spending a lot of time in prayer and the Word.

What was He trying to do with me? He said He needed me to recognize His voice so that I would be able to work with Him in the next phase of my life with Him. He said I would need to know His voice to be able to do things He would ask me to do. I needed to know how He would work with me. He would say a word and bring someone into my space to repeat the same word as confirmation. It happened severally within this period.

Finally, He said to me, ‘The total manifestation of your healing will be my Valentine gift to you’. I went to bed on February 13th with symptoms and woke up on February 14th completely symptom free. The enemy tries to tell me, everything has gone quiet to start again later and I remind him what a liar he is. I was reluctant to share this story because I was not sure how it would be received. I also did not want a satanic onslaught on me to reverse my story. But I decided that, God who did it is able to keep me. After all, in Isaiah 43:13c He says, ‘I work, and who will reverse it’. So I share it as my Easter story, to make you remember that you have the God given mandate to bring every Satanic onslaught in your life under subjection. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you from the minute you received Him as your Lord and Savior.

Incidentally, this is the 2nd time I experienced issues with my breast. At the time I got born again 23 years ago, I had similar issues. I just brought it to the Lord in prayer but I was not involved in a battle. It just cleared away but I had to engage this time. God is on our side. His default toward us it to bless us, to be good to us. That is what Easter is all about. To enable us experience His goodness despite our being so undeserving. In Jesus, we have everything we need- prosperity, healing, preservation, protection, a well thought out plan to bless us. But we need to engage with the One who made the provision to fight the one who does not want us to get them.

I fought this last one and got my healing. It was a special time in my life. I got even closer to God than ever. I will continue to fight to gain more grounds in my life in every area. Apart from the goodies, it brings me even closer to God. Like Paul, when I go to be with the Lord, in old age, having lived a good life, passed on my Godly heritage to my children and grandchildren, I will say like Paul, ‘I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous God will give me on that Day……’ 2 Timothy 2:7-9. I believe that is what He wants for all of us. In Christ, there are many battles but the victories are far more than the defeats. That is why I engage confidently-victory has been won for me, all because of EASTER. Halleluyah.
